Hello Sketching friends!
Long time no see and I hope you all have been well. I just returned from a fabulous retreat in Northern Vietnam. This retreat is organised by Anna Barnes and we spent 10 days exploring art, food and culture of Northern Vietnam. Working with Anna is always a blast even after running 7 retreats with her. I really appreciate her unique perspective as an anthropologist and chef.
We took 10 international guests from Vietnam’s bustling capital city Hanoi (3nights) to picturesque Tam Coc (4nights) before jumping onboard a Ha Long Bay cruise (2nights). Our art workshops are also conducted in very unique locations such as intimate cafes or out by the lakeside surrounded by majestic limestone mountains. Learning together on-location is never dull moment.
All 6 art workshops are carefully designed to encourage play and experimentation. I also scaffolded the workshops to relook at essential concepts like mark making and textures to support the application of watercolour. I hope to empower my students to create their own creative matrix by adapting basic building blocks learnt in class.

Oh how I love the freedom in your art. My brain just won’t let me do that, I have to be more precise. I’m working on something at the moment which is probably as free as I’ll get, but I keep looking at it and thinking it needs more detail grrrr! Glad your time with the students went so well. We have never been to Hanoi unfortunately, but have been lucky enough to visit Hue, Hoi An, D’nang, Na Trang, Phu My and Ho Chi Min City. Such a wonderful country.
