ASIA LINK Sketch Walk 2024 - Georgetown PENANG.
This is an annual event held in Asia for all sketchers and this year we met in Georgetown Penang.
Hello my sketching friends!
Hope you are keeping cool and hydrated! I just returned from our annual Asia Link sketch walk event and this year we met in Georgetown Penang. Urban Sketchers Penang team worked really hard to host nearly 500? sketchers from Asia Pacific. Unfortunately I was too slow to grab a ticket and all tickets were snapped up in the first few hours. Nevertheless I still decided to fly to Penang to meet up with my sketching family. I was glad many friends also had no tickets and we ended up forming several informal sketching groups.
Now let me show you what I saw, ate and sketched in this beautiful UNESCO old town.
You must check out Armenian Street if you are visiting Georgetown. Every corner you turn you will see something sketchable. There is this particular row of shophouses along Armenian street that I love. You will see this tiny little turquoise blue shophouse sandwiched between two other houses. I first sketched this scene in 2012 when I attended a similar sketching event in Penang and on this trip I decided to do another version. 12 years apart and still very fun to sketch this spot. Can you see the differences? I think I have learnt to focus on the process, embrace the happy accidents and always to stay playful.
I hope this post has inspired to find more about Georgetown and why I love sketching shophouses. Oh one last piece of good news, the next Asia Link sketch walk (2025) will be held in Phuket Thailand. Stay tuned for the dates!!
