This is a scene I am very familiar with when I wake up each morning. I often spend several minutes staring into the mirror and with blurry eyes I try to find my toothbrush and toothpaste. Recently a light bulb moment went off while I was brushing my teeth at the sink and I thought to myself why don’t I transform this mundane scene into something exciting. Usually my most boring moments are also the most inspiring ones. So I decided to pursue my curiosity!!
This creative workout had lots of breaking (cutting), rebuilding and reconstruction. Even though I have deconstructed many times, I still wasn’t sure if this particular crazy adventure will crash or take flight. I was certainly having lots of fun solving this puzzle. Firstly I had to create and construct a quick painting of the scene as base material before deconstruction.
This is also an abstraction/reduction exercise and the purpose is not to create an exact replica but rather extract the essence from the original artwork and create new possibilities.
DECONSTRUCTION & PLAY PHASE
Learning how to let go of perfection through the cutting process.
Create new materials, new ideas and new possibilities.
Metamorphosis through transformation.
RECONSTRUCTION & CRITIC PHASE
Rebuild and reconstruction to create new meaning and new connections.
Celebrate the imperfections and flaws.
Create a flowing narrative and emphasis.
I hope you found this article helpful and inspiring. Remember not to throw your ‘ruined’ and bad sketches and paintings. You can always give them a 2nd chance and a new life and transform them into something exciting.
that was fascinating ! I now know what will happen with all my ugly paintings ! thanks a lot for this very beautiful moments.
This was mesmerizing...I love the freedom you express...that is the best part of creating in my opinion...
