Hong Kong - The Fragrant Harbour
This post is a summary of my week long adventure in Hong Kong after a 7 years absence.
Hello sketching friends!
Hope your summer is coming along just fine. I just returned from a week long trip to Hong Kong and very excited to tell you all about it. I used to visit HK very regularly up until 2017 and decided I will take a short break. Who knew my short break would turn into a long 7 year wait, mostly interrupted by the pandemic. So this trip was extra special because I can finally meet my sketching family in person and of course indulge in delicious HK food!!
There definitely lots of changes in the city but glad the familiar street markets around Gage street, Graham street and Peel street are still operating. I absolutely love sketching at the market. The mess, the noise and the energy is fun to sketch.
This trip was partly sponsored by Daniel Smith so that I can support John Cogley, the owner and CEO of Daniel Smith, for his talk and colour tasting event in HK. 90 enthusiastic participants attended our event and we had a wonderful morning sharing our passion for watercolour. I spoke about my own creative journey and how I have been playing with DS paints since 2014.
I also taught 2 workshops (Wet & wild with textures and Playing with Unconventional Tools) and organised by local art shop (Joy in Art). Lots of fun exchanging ideas and our different approaches to sketching and painting. Joy in Art also displayed one of my original painting in their exhibition.
Give unconventional tools a try if you are looking for new ways to play. Lots of fun and best way to loosen up!
