Hello friends,
Spring is here and the heat in Southeast Asia is becoming unbearable! It will be another 2-3months of blazing sun and extreme temperatures. Hence I am sketching indoors more frequently to stay cool.
‘Into the alley!’ is a new studio piece based on a photograph I took in January during my art-food-culture retreat. What caught my attention is the space/alley inserted into a row of mustard yellow colour ancient houses. This interruption creates tension and visual interest. The deep shadows in the alley also creates interesting contrast to the sun kissed walls. Oh can you find my little doggie?

Looking forward to my next art-food-culture retreat in April with another group of international guests. More updates soon and see you in my next substack post!

The painting is better than the real thing! I'm wondering what the red stamps are in the bottom right?
Thank you, Paul! Your work is so full of color and detail and movement—it’s alive! It is a treat to watch you work.
