Welcoming TET in Hoi An (Jan 2025)

These are my artwork and stories from my art food culture retreat in Hoi An Vietnam.

Hello Sketching Friends,

Happy lunar new year and wishing everyone a prosperous and creative new year ahead. I just returned from a wonder 2 weeks in Hoi An Vietnam and cannot wait to share my artwork and stories with you.

As some of you might already know, I conduct regular art food culture retreats with Anna Barnes in Vietnam. Together with 9 international guests, we explored Vietnam through art, food and culture. 8 sketching and painting workshops that I taught also centered around play, becoming unbound and cultivating our own creative voice. This retreat was extra special because TET (Vietnamese lunar new year) also happened on the 4th day of our retreat. There was so much festivity, fireworks and interesting TET food made especially for the occasion.

This is Trung’s father showing us how Banh Tet (special new year’s rice cake) is made.
