HAPPY NEW YEAR sketching friends!

Thank you so much for your patience, I am back from my new year travel in Kyushu Japan. My first and last trip to Japan was in December 2019 and travel was quickly interrupted by the pandemic. Hence I was very excited to revisit this beautiful country that I love so much. This trip was extra special because I flew out new year’s day to experience how the Japanese celebrate the 1st week of 2025.

After landing in Fukuoka, we drove straight to Hiroshima to experience this haunting city. Of course I had to try Hiroshima style okonomiyaki at the famous Okonomi-mura. I quickly found out it is not just one shop but 4 floors full of little shops all making and selling this popular street food. I managed to sneak in a quick 10minutes sketch of the chef simultaneously making 12 okonomiyakis. It was quite a feat and show!

Quick stop and sketch at the Miyajima service stop before out next city, Kumamoto.

Little sketch in front of Kumamoto Castle and a delicious seafood bowl lunch (Kaisendon) next to the castle.

I highly recommend visiting the Chiran Samurai residence gardens on the way to Kagoshima. Some of the home gardens dates back to the 16th century.

After 3 nights in Kagoshima to see Sakurajima, a very active volcano, I arrived in Fukuoka to enjoy this exciting city. Yes more feasting and shopping before flying back home.

Now I am official ready to start 2025. Next week I fly up to Vietnam to meet Anna and 8 international guests for our art food culture retreat. We will be busy sketching and feasting for 10days in Hoi An. Stay tuned for more Instagram updates from Hoi An!

Once again, I am so grateful for your support and encouragement. Thank you for being part of my creative journey too. I look forward to sharing more exciting contents, demo videos and new workshops this year.
