Hello Colour friends!
Hope you had a really fun and creative summer with lots of sunshine. I know the weather is starting to turn cooler for some of you. Unfortunately there is only 2 seasons here in Singapore. It is either hot or wet. Lately we have been experiencing rather erratic weather. Thunder storm and heavy rain will definitely come after an intense morning or afternoon.
Enough of the weather. I am very excited to talk about my latest painting entitled ‘Wildest Dreams’. The play and experimental phase is over and now the painting is entering the editorial and critic phase. Much like trying to solve a puzzle, I have the big working pieces in place, now I just need to know how to fit in the smaller and more tricky pieces. Painting is all about creating various types of relationships and connections. You do need formal/informal, tense and causal connections for the painting to work.
The sketch above is a little visual summary of what was spinning in my mind before I started painting. These are mostly ideas from my collection of 2D images & photographs. I like to collect images and words that have triggered some kind of mental or emotional response in me. A particular photograph of mangosteens and rambutans (tropical fruit with a red hairy outer shell) in an old basket intrigued me the most. That a photograph is special as it was taken during last year’s art retreat in Hoi An. Once I have enough ingredients and a clear mind, it is play time! It is time to put my wildest dreams on paper.
No permission needed to create your wildest dreams when you pick up your brushes. You just need to trust your hands (and body) when you pursue your dreams. This is also the time to find out who you really are and what do you really really like to do when given a blank piece of paper. Stop only when you have thoroughly enjoyed the playing process!
The painting is about 80-90% complete and now is a good time to step away and detach myself (eyes and mind) from the painting before I ruin it.
I hope you have enjoyed peeking into my messy crazy brain. Stay tuned for the completed painting!
